I am thankful, November for kids education.

November, 16th

I am thankful for good education in our country.  I have been back and forth on this thought all year long. I'm not going to lie to you, living in South-Africa and choosing to stay these days, well it's not always the easy choice. Sometimes it's because we don't really have a choice due to finances and other times it's just because of the "same old same old" question: "but where will we go?' Today I am scratching those thoughts and I am focusing on the positive our country still has to offer. I spent hours with my daughter behind math books yesterday, preparing her for a grade 2 maths test. She was exhausted, the scary part was, so was I. If our country had nothing to offer, I figure, I wouldn't have been tired. As in mathimatically drained. Yeah sure, we're not completely on the map, but let's look at the bright side, we're not off the map.

A bit of back ground: I'm married to an old "Rodisian", now called Zimbabwe. They left when he was six, so he's been a full on South African for like thirty five years, accept for the fact that Afrikaans is still a major hurdle in his life. I clearly remember my father in-law telling me they left due to schooling and hospitalisation. We still have both. Private and public. Maybe not always of the highest standards but we still have a system running. So I am thankful for the fact that our kids has education, to such an extend that it actually tires the mommy. I am thankful that there's a safe place to "drop and go" my kids. I am thankful that they have people to teach them how to read, write and count. I am most thankful (especially after yesterday) that I don't have to do that job. (Hats off once again to all home schooling moms)

LET'S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS: I am thankful to be in a country where there is hope and oppertunity, I am thankful to be in a country where we can still dream and I am most thankful to be in a contry where we can be joined as the "rainbow nation" of God. Our teachers, doctors, nurses, government, courts, jails.... all the way down to our families are all influenced, but I am thankful that God is part of that influenced movement, because I know He is. I see it every day on social media, and I don't know, call me naive but I feel it in my core.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chron. 7:14

I'm thankful that I dropped my little girl at school knowing that she knows far more than what she knew yesterday, knowing that this country still offers what is good and still provides what is necessary. I'm truely a thankful mommy today.
